Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
I can’t say exactly when the deeper implications of this nursery rhyme became apparent to me.
I do remember thinking that I would enjoy sharing some light from that inspirational aha moment that I experienced so that others might also enjoy the simple and yet profound wisdom that is imparted here.
“Row your boat gently down the stream” could mean that your best course of action is to go with the flow and you do have some choice as to where in the stream you choose to position yourself. And to be gentle in your navigating of life’s flow.
“Merrily” could pertain to the attitude that will yield the most peace and joy. If we can approach even life’s biggest challenges with this attitude we will be well served.
“Life is but a dream” could pertain to the opinion held by some (including Buddhists) that life is merely an illusion of sorts. Or, it could mean that if we have this sort of perspective, nothing will shake our peace.
What do you think?
