American Beauty: film review

Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening star in this 1999 released film about life in Anerica. For me, the film centers around the scene where Ricky, son of the neighbor, shows Jane, daughter of Spacey/Bening “the most beautiful thing” he ever filmed. This scene is so perfect in so many ways: the lighting, the dialog including the pauses, the facial expressions, and the overall message of the scene. You can see this scene on YouTube: Tears come welling up for me most of the times I watch it. The rest of the movie shows the hyper-ridiculousness of culture and how this culture has moved so far away from the wonder and gratitude of what life offers us to a world of put on airs and disingenuous behavior. Watching this central scene helps me to remember. How does it affect you?
